Bristol walk based on Barrett’s book ‘The History and Antiquities of the City of Bristol’

Lydney Park and Hopewell Colliery Vist

We shall be visiting the famous gardens which also contain an Iron Age promontory Fort, the remains of Roman open cast iron mines and a Roman Temple site excavated by Sir Mortimer Wheeler in the 1920s. After lunch we travel through the forest to Hopewell Colliery for a guided tour underground. Lansdown Lectures

In this new series of lectures we shall be inviting PhD students involved in archaeology to tell us about their work. To start us off we have Jamie Lewis from the University of Bristol who will be telling us of his research into tracing human movement and migration using strontium isotope methodology.
